4 Things I’m Trying to Have More Energy

brighton keller tips for energy wearing pink jacket leggings and white tank

Hey friends! I hope today’s post doesn’t come across as me complaining or anything, but I feel like I have to share it with y’all in case anyone has any good tips. See, I’ve been SO run down lately. Like even back before the engagement and I wasn’t running around quite as much as I am now. You might remember me talking about it on Stories? I thought maybe it had something to do with my food choices but I honestly have no idea at this point.

Anyway, I am feeling a bit better lately actually but I still don’t really know the root cause of it all. I need to figure it out and I’m hoping I will, but for right now the list of things below is what I’ve been trying.

Paying attention to what I’m eating

Like I said above, I feel like food might have something to do with all of this? Idk. Whether it does or not, I’ve been trying to pay more attention to what I’m eating and then see how it makes me feel afterward. This isn’t a diet kind of thing either, more like a wellness thing? It’s not about weight or how I look, it’s about how I’m feeling and what kinds of food make me feel good and what kinds make me feel bad. I’ve heard elimination diets (I don’t like the word diet, but that’s what they’re called) can be good for this sort of thing so maybe I’ll try that at some point. Anyone ever tried one? Did it help you pinpoint anything?

Getting enough sleep

OK, so I don’t always do a great job with this, but I’m trying! I’ve been going back and reading this post and this post on switching your brain off and how to actually get 8 hours of sleep. I mean, it seems like the most logical thing when you’re feeling exhausted that you’re not getting enough sleep. I feel like I usually (not so much right now though probably) do alright in this category so I’m not sure if this is 100% the issue. But sleep can definitely be one of those “too much of a good thing is a bad thing”, ya know? So maybe that’s what’s going on? Either way, getting at least 8 hours a night is important to me so I’m making it a priority regardless.

Exercise

If there’s one thing I’m sure of it’s that I feel so much better when I move my body. Honestly, I feel like I’ve learned a lot about working out lately and it’s been so refreshing. Like how happy walking for 30 min a day makes me. It’s very therapeutic. I’ve also discovered I really love pilates and doing madeline_moves workouts. There’s been a lot of trial and error over the years and long stretches of time where I didn’t do anything TBH, but if I’m doing anything “right” for myself right now, exercising is definitely it!

Taking breaks

Even though my life is going in a million different directions right now between planning a wedding and moving to Denver, I’m trying to gauge when I truly am running on E and then give myself a break. I don’t want to be a zombie during my time with Duncan, family and friends so if that means I have to take a break from work, then that’s what has to happen. Brighton from a few years ago would have NEVER been able to do this, but I guess all my reading on personal development and self-care really is working! Ha!

That’s all I’ve got! If you’ve ever dealt with exhaustion or just feeling run down in general, let me know what you did to feel better – I’m all ears!
