A Note to My Readers

intentions

Dear Readers,

I want to start by saying thank you so much for your support, feedback, comments and all other ways you have helped me with BrightonTheDay. As you probably know, I only just started this blog under a month ago, so I am definitely new to the blogging world and everything that it entails. My About Me page outlines the general reasons for why I started this blog and the content I intend to cover, but I wanted to explain a little more via this post.

When I first started, I was just fascinated with the coding and technical logistics behind web design. I love to learn, so I taught myself HTML, CSS, and a few other coding tricks before Thanksgiving break with the intention of possibly helping my mom launch her website. One thing led to another and I decided to start this blog.  My mom and I decided it would be a fun and adventurous project for me that would benefit both of us.  Without her encouragement, I never would have had the confidence to do something like this.  At that point, I decided to take a few pictures of outfits (featuring Dee Keller Shoes) to post on the potential blog.  Over Thanksgiving break, my sisters and I had so much fun putting outfits together and taking pictures!

I knew I did not want the blog to merely be pictures of myself (because it’s not really about ME, it’s about inspiring YOU), so I brainstormed a few other “post types” in addition to “outfit posts” that I could do as well.  I’ve always kept a Look Book of things I love – the pages consisted of a number of things including images I tore out of magazines, quotes that inspired me, ideas or words I wanted to investigate, moments I wanted to remember etc. Thus, in addition to outfit posts, I decided to start with doing style boards and typography (Typography Tuesdays!), but I am definitely not limited to these two “post types.” As you can probably tell, my blog is still undergoing several changes as it continues to evolve. I’m still not quite sure what I want BrightonTheDay to be limited to or even what primary audience I want to address/target.

Now that it has been almost 3 weeks, I have been thinking about what the blog has become thus far. I realize, obviously, that my blog has been primarily focused on fashion and style. Although I love clothes and accessories, I in no way want to promote materialism or encourage consumerism.  The style boards and outfit posts are a way for me to express my creativity and sense of style and hopefully give you ideas along the way. But I hope that I do NOT engender a sense of inadequacy or the notion that you HAVE to go out and buy something.

Most of the items I wear in my “outfit posts” are old, which is why many items are not linked.  I do not want to give the impression that I am constantly shopping or buying new things because that is NOT the case.  In fact, 95% of the things I’ve worn are old. I hope that the posts encourage you to use what you already have in your closets, possibly giving you new ideas. (In my opinion, it is this part of fashion and style that is the most fun.)  Anyone can go out and buy a new, expensive outfit, but it takes skill and style to put together old & new, bargain & splurge items in interesting and fun ways! In a perfect world, one day I would like to do more “outfit posts” that feature more clothes/accessories that are STILL available, but that would only be possible with the help of retailers or designers “gifting” those items. With all this being said, I still plan on doing outfit posts and styleboards that feature clothing/accessories, but hopefully now you will better understand my intentions. At the least, I just wanted you to hear my thoughts regarding the blog thus far.

Sorry for the novel, I just wanted to get some of my thoughts out there. If you have anything to say, I would love to hear it. I am always open to hear your comments and/or suggestions. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Oh, and if you’re wondering….there was NO comment that made me write this – just my own thoughts.
