6 Adulting Habits I Want to Form for My 30s

You read that right – as of this month I am officially joining the 30s club! And ya know what? I’m actually really excited about it! I feel like with the move and the wedding it’s the perfect time to just start a new decade fresh. I’m entering this whole new chapter in my life and turning 30 seems like the perfect way to get it started. And with this new chapter, I’ve got some new #adulting habits I’m working on.

It’s actually kinda funny because I decided to write this article because I was thinking about the things I’ve been sharing with y’all lately and it occurred to me that a lot of them involve me trying to take better care of myself. Think about it – the walking challenge, the CBD, taking a vitamin, healthy smoothies – so many good things lately, right? Well, I decided to make it official and share the below list of all the things I really want to focus on in this new decade! Let me know if you’re also in your 30s and I’m completely missing something, k? I’m new at this LOL.

Taking vitamins

This one is HUGE for me! I’m so, so thankful I’ve had the opportunity to partner with Ritual and get to know the brand and share it with you guys because I’ve learned a TON about vitamins and why I need to be taking one every day. First, Ritual makes it super easy with their non-nausea capsule. This is something I’ve always struggled with and really turned me off of taking supplements in the past – I always felt nauseous after taking, but I’ve had none of that with Ritual! And now I get 9 nutrients everyday to help fill the gaps in my diet.

Second, Ritual contains oily and dry nutrients all in one capsule so you don’t have to take a million pills every day. This actually saves you money too because if you buy just an omega 3 supplement, it’s $25 and Ritual is only $30/month and it contains all the nutrients you need including omegas, iron, vitamin B12 and vitamin D3! I also like that you know your pills are fresh and haven’t been sitting on a shelf in a store for who knows how long because Ritual produces and ships all its products to order. Oh, and it tastes great because it has mint in it! Needless to say, I’m a big fan of this product and how easy it has made taking a high-quality vitamin every day.

Walking daily

I’ve been having SO much fun seeing y’all’s walking videos you tag me in on Instagram! I don’t think it’ll ever get old honestly. It feels really good to know that we’re all dedicated to getting our 30 minutes in and that I can lean on YOU when I really do not want to make my walk happen. It also feels good to know that I’ve found a sustainable way to move my body. I feel like I’ve accepted that maybe I won’t always be super consistent with my regular workouts, but I will walk and that definitely counts for something!

Drinking enough water

Historically I’ve been pretty bad at making sure I drink enough water but having a smartwatch helps me keep track of things like that. I think the real key is having a water bottle with you at all times. I’m trying to get in the habit of carrying one with me wherever I go so I don’t have to chug 60 ounces right before bed to meet my goal for the day.

Eating greens in the morning

Y’all have heard me talk about the book “Body Love” by Kelly LeVeque, which is giving me MAJOR health inspo right now. She shares all these smoothie recipes in the book that include tons of greens, and even though I’m not 100% on board with the taste quite yet, I love knowing I’ve started my day with such a nourishing meal.

Going to bed earlier

I’ve always been more of a morning person versus a night owl, but the older I get, the more I can definitely tell if I didn’t get at least eight hours of sleep. I drag throughout the day and rely on coffee to keep me going, which isn’t a great recipe for a productive day. 30-year-old Brighton definitely needs her sleep so getting to bed at a decent time is a very high priority for me.

Using face serums

I’ve always had an interest in skincare but until recently I haven’t really done a ton in the way of serums and more preventative care. I’ve learned a lot in the last year about the importance of having a structured skincare regiment that includes these kinds of products, so I’m slowly starting to test out serums to help brighten and firm up my skin.

All these things might seem really small, but I’m a believer that lots of small things add up to have a big impact so that’s what I’m aiming for by building these habits. TBH, I’m getting older, and I know I’m only going to feel like my best self later if I take really good care of myself now.
