The Origins of Agenda

Brighton Butler robe bedroom agenda life launch

I truly cannot believe that it’s already been one month since we launched Agenda. It feels so surreal! This is something I’ve been working on for a few years now — maybe even before some of you started following along.

So much life has happened since I started this venture. I met Duncan, got engaged, planned a wedding, moved to Denver, went through the pandemic, moved *back* to Texas, sold a house, bought a house… and then had a baby. Needless to say, it has been quite the wild ride and Agenda has been a huge part of all of it.

Today, I thought it’d be fun to pull back the curtain a bit and see how Agenda came to life. I’m so proud of what we’ve created, but it took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get to where we are today!

So, where to begin? Let’s start from the beginning, shall we? I promise to keep it concise, as I could go on and on!

AGENDA by BRIGHTON BUTLER

How It Began

Let’s go back to 2017 when things were first set into motion. I’ve always loved creating content on my blog and Instagram, but I knew I wanted to eventually do something that extended beyond me and the digital content I was publishing. I wanted to figure out a way to create a brand or product (or even an event) that would provide value to my audience that went beyond me if that makes sense?

At the time, I really wasn’t sure what it would be or how I’d make it happen, but I started dreaming and having conversations to figure it out. I wasn’t in any sort of rush, so I kept doing what I was doing and hoped that eventually, I’d find more clarity one way or another.

Forming The Brand + Products

In 2018, I started dreaming and playing with the idea of creating a BTD product(s). I had a few different ideas for what the product would be, but the two main product types were some sort of organizational paper good or a hair product. After lots of brainstorming and finding the right partners, the brand Agenda was born!

When forming the brand, I had hair products in mind (of course!), but I really wanted to keep the door open to dream bigger than simply hair products. I’m not sure what the future holds for Agenda, but my hope is that one day we can expand beyond hair and into lifestyle (we shall see)! I just knew I wanted to create a brand that felt like an extension of Brighton the Day, embodying all the same values that drive my content for the blog, but could also stand on its own.

I personally have zero professional experience or training when it comes to hair care, but I do know products based on my own experience. Over the years, I’ve tried hundreds of hair products and have done my fair share of research from an application standpoint. I’m thankful to have partnered with a team of people who have the technical expertise needed to bring this brand to life, including but not limited to chemists, product developers, and a manufacturing partner.

Together, we’ve created a brand and products that I’m *so* proud of! We initially launched with 3 easy-to-use products that can be used individually or as a routine, but I hope to create more in the future. I’m excited to see how the brand evolves and how you all enjoy and use the products!

Why *These* 3 Products?

I wanted to launch with 3 easy-to-use, practical products that can be used as a full routine and individually. My main concerns are always volume and healthy hair, and with these products, I get both.

Truthfully, I really wanted to launch with dry shampoo. But after several rounds of formulation, we couldn’t get the formula *just* right. Aerosols are a whole new world, and I had no idea how difficult they could be! I wasn’t willing to compromise quality, so I tabled it for now. I hope to circle back to dry shampoo in the future and launch with something I’m truly confident in!

Here’s a little bit about our first three products below!

Head Start Protection Serum

Y’all know I love blow drying my hair and appreciate a good hot tool for curls or waves. That being said, it’s the importance of protecting your hair from the heat, so I wanted to create a product that would set your hair up for success. The Head Start Protection serum conditions, moisturizes, and protects hair from heat. It is almost a blend between a heat protectant and a leave-in conditioner.

Big Plans Ahead Root Boosting Foam

Volume, texture, and body in my hair is, and has always been, a favorite feature for me! The Big Plans Ahead Root Boosting Foam gives your hair the grip and grit it needs for volume without any added weight.

Finish Strong Hair Oil

The Finish Strong Hair Oil helps with softening, smoothing, and strengthening hair through a blend of oils, including sweet almond, jojoba, and rice bran oil. I’ve never really been a big hair oil person because somehow they all made my hair feel a bit greasy — even when I just used it on my ends. That being said, I absolutely LOVE how light this oil is; it won’t make your hair look or feel greasy at all.

If you’ve tried any of the Agenda products, I’d love to hear your feedback! You can shop all of our products here. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter too so you can be the first to know about exciting launches and other brand updates!
