This time of year can be crazy busy between traveling, holiday get-togethers, and all the things sitting on our never-ending to-do lists. Squeezing in a workout can seem nearly impossible! I get it. To be honest, there are a LOT of days I struggle to fit in my workouts during the rest of the year, so doing so during the holidays can be a huge challenge.

There are certain things I do to stay active this time of year that I felt might be helpful to share with y’all. For me, it’s all about progress over perfection and not getting down on myself if I can’t fit in a full workout session. Just moving my body for 30 minutes a day in whatever way that looks for me helps me feel so much better. Here’s a peek at a few of the other ways I stay active during the holidays.

Schedule My Workouts

I’ve recently gotten back into working with a personal trainer. I LOVED doing this before our wedding and then again when I was pregnant with Four (you can read more about how I worked out during my pregnancy here). I live and breathe by my calendar, and I find that when my workouts are on my calendar they are like 10000 times more likely to happen.

Find a Work Out Buddy

Having an accountability partner gives me so much motivation to work out. I convinced my friend Ashley to join me for my personal training sessions and it’s been so much fun getting to push each other. There’s no way I would not show up if I’ve committed to her that I’ll be there – sometimes it’s the only thing getting me out the door when I’ve got a million things I need to do!

Get Creative

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I tend to get bored with the same workouts. This is why it’s been great working with a trainer. But on the days that I’m not in the gym, I enjoy trying out all kinds of different exercises. I got the MYXfitness bike not too long ago and it’s been a game-changer. With my membership, I have access to all kinds of different workouts like yoga and strength training so I can keep it interesting without getting bored.

Prioritize Progress Over Perfection

I swear this is my life mantra. I pretty much apply it to all parts of my life from business to relationships to fitness to parenting. There are so many days, especially this time of year when a full-body workout just isn’t going to happen. On those days, I prioritize something over nothing. Most of the time, that looks like a 30-minute walk with Duncan and Four or a 20-minute ride of my bike in between calls. The most important thing is that I just get my body moving!

Focus on Sleep and Diet

It’s important for me to remember that sleep and diet can be as important as exercise. When I’m busy, I tend to sacrifice sleep and rely on takeout way more than I should. I feel much better when I can make a simple homecooked meal (hello, Home Chef) and try to get a full 8 hours of sleep. Not only do I have more energy to actually work out, but I feel better in general and am much more productive.
