My 2021 Holiday Decor

Brighton Butler Holiday Christmas Decor living room

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! There are few things I love more than a house full of holiday decor. It’s SO cozy and festive. I’ve always loved decorating for Christmas, but there’s something even more special about doing it now that I have my own family. I want Four (and Duncan!) to look forward to this time every year growing up, and I think having a fun and decorated house is one way to do that.

Side note: I just shared a list of holiday activities we’re planning to do this year that would be great whether you’ve got little ones, are newlyweds, or want some festive things to do with your friends this month. The calendar kicks off TODAY so be sure to check it out here.

When it comes to holiday decor, I’ve never really been one to stick with a theme necessarily. As with my year-round decor, I love simple, elevated pieces that feel organic in my space. Sure, it’s fun to be a *little* extra during this time of year, but for the most part, we keep things pretty classic around here. This year, I asked the amazing Madeleine of Madeleine Creative to help me decorate this year and she knocked it out of the park!!! Highly, highly recommend her if you live in the Dallas area.

I’ve also never really had an exact date when I like to put up our decorations. I know some people are STRONGLY against putting up decorations before Thanksgiving and others think the earlier, the better. I typically err on the side of early so we can enjoy everything longer, plus it gives me someplace to put my wrapped gifts!

Here are links to everything we used for our holiday decorations this year. I hope this helps give you some inspo if you haven’t decorated yet!

OH, CHRISTMAS TREE

For our tree, I stuck with neutral colors like silver, white, and gold. I couldn’t believe how cute some of these ornaments were from Target (Target ALWAYS, am I right???) — and Madeleine suggested we use some of our extra ornaments to decorate various baskets and bowls I had out. I would never have thought to use them for that but I love how it turned out!

GARLAND & WREATHS

One way I love to make the entire house feel festive is by using garland and wreaths everywhere. Of course, we always have a wreath on our front doot, but I love playing around with other fun places to put them inside — like on my oven hood range. In my opinion, it elevates any space! Here’s what I used for our home.

FESTIVE HOLIDAY DECOR

Adding small touches is the perfect way to finalize your decor. I am OBSESSED with these glass tree cloches and our cable knit stockings from Crate and Barrel. I’m sure by next year it will be much more difficult to have things like this around the house once Four is walking but for now, I’ll appreciate that I can have breakable things on display!

GIFT WRAPPING SUPPLIES

I wrote an entire blog post on the holiday gift wrap I’m using this year. I love making wrapped gifts part of our holiday decor! Like my decor, I tend to keep my wrapping paper somewhat classic and minimalist. The gingham is my absolute fave and I think the subtle pops of red under the tree is such a nice touch.
