Tips for Keeping a Clean Home

brighton butler go clean co

Y’all, I’m still reeling from my Instagram Live with yesterday with Sarah McAllister from Go Clean Co. In case you missed it, you can see the whole thing here.

Sarah is the QUEEN of clean and gives so many amazing tips on the Go Clean Co Instagram account. We even did a fun little Reel after our Live with a few quick tips for cleaning the items in your house that always seem difficult to keep clean.

Before our Live, I reached out to Sarah with a few questions I commonly have around how to keep a clean house, and I wanted to share her answers with you because they were so good. Hopefully, these will help y’all as much as they’ve helped me!

What are some of the mental health benefits attached to living in a clean, organized space?

Decluttering and cleaning your space clears your mind. I know we say this a lot, but it’s the same as dealing with all the emails that are giving you anxiety in your inbox. Clean it up and you instantly feel better, so let’s do that with your bathrooms too.

When is the best time to do your spring cleaning?

Now! Haha, we started our spring cleaning challenge on March 20th. Take your time, this is a big job, and it cannot be done in one day.

Share the top 5 things you can do on a daily basis to keep a tidy home.

First of all, put things back and assign chores to your kids (they are not too little). I like to speed clean at the end of the day — just a quick 15-minute cleanup. Set your timer and get the kids involved. If everyone pitches in for 15 minutes and you have a family of 4, that’s really an HOUR of cleaning!

Put everything back where it’s supposed to live, fluff the pillows, vacuum the floors, then sit down and relax. You do not have to clean every day. Life is for living.

What are the cleaning supplies you can’t live without?

Powdered Tide, Bleach, a good vacuum, Windex, and a polish cloth

Share some simple things you can use like dish soap & water to clean different areas of your home.

Dish soap, hot water, and a squeegee (preferably the AquaBlade) is the best way to clean windows, marble countertops, foggy mirrors, etc. Dish soap and hot water does a LOT.

When do you recommend using a housekeeper versus cleaning yourself?

Any time you can hire it out, DO IT. If you can’t afford to, do it yourself! A lot of people don’t realize we are a DEEP cleaning company only, so lots of our clients have weekly housekeepers and hire us to come in 2-3 times a year to keep everything in line. One person cannot do what we do!

We always ask our clients if there is anything that needs some extra love or something they really want to be done. I always suggest you ask for a deep clean quarterly and talk to your housekeeper about your expectations.

Also, give a list! We love lists because it makes sure we cover everything the client wants and ensures that they are happy, that’s what really matters to us!

How can someone stop looking at cleaning as a chore and start enjoying it?

Learn how to be efficient and invest in the right products. We can teach you this! Don’t get overwhelmed. Just stick to one room, and then take a break. You will be so proud of yourself; it creates a domino effect throughout your entire house.

Is there a cleaning product you recommend people splurge on?

A BOX OF TIDE. Trust me, it feels like a splurge because it’s $20, but you can use it so many ways. You only need to use a tablespoon at a time so it’ll last forever too.
