Spring capsule wardrobe

Spring capsule wardrobe

Hi friends! Happy March 1st AND Friday! Gosh, I am fired up and am so excited to be sharing this with y’all today! I’ve actually been working on this for the past 3 weeks and have had such a fun time putting it together. I’ve visited several stores and scoured the internets to find the BEST pieces to style for this capsule wardrobe, keeping wearability and versatility in mind.

What is a Capsule Wardrobe?

I’m sure you can find a bunch of definitions on the internet, but it’s basically just a few items that you wear interchangeably. Some people are pretty strict about it, but I like to think of it as a baseline wardrobe for each season, consisting of items that are easy-to-wear and style multiple ways. Today, I’m sharing my kickstarter Spring capsule wardrobe that I’ll be using as a base to put together several looks. Throughout the season, I’ll be adding pieces (I’m sure) but I think this is a great starting place.

Who is This Capsule Wardrobe For?

Most of the outfits I put together with these pieces are super casual. But I’d say this capsule is for women who can wear jeans most of the time, but need to occasionally take things up a notch for dinner, a meeting, or church. I included a pair of heels to dress some of the pieces up, but all the other shoes are relatively casual (flats or everyday heels).

For the tops, I chose a few basis (like a chambray button-up and striped tee) and then chose a few other specialty pieces to bring some color into the collection – the pink printed blouse as well as the blue one.

TOPS

Floral Printed Cami (size XS) – I went through a few other printed camis but landed on this one because the print has neutrals in it, so it’s easy to pair with other items – like the blush leather jacket or off-white cropped cardigan. Plus there’s brown in it, so it pairs nicely with the espadrille mules. 9

White Cotton Courier Shirt (size XXS, runs big) – I got this top in the solid white and blue and white stripes because I love it so much. It’s such a great basic and super easy to style! I’ll be wearing this one well into the summer months too!

Striped Button Up (size XXS, runs big) – Like I said above, I love this top. This one specifically, though, has a little less structure than the solid white. It’s a softer material, but I like it! I love the color of the stripes (blue) because it pairs really well denim, cognac/tan, as well as the blue suede shoes I’m featuring this season! It’s cute worn untucked, tied up, or tucked in which allows for lots of versatility when putting together outfits.

Striped Short-Sleeve Tee (size XS – $28) – No matter what time of year it is, you’ll always fine me wearing some version of a striped tee. This one is short-sleeved for Spring and has a fitted look that you can styled tucked in or leave untucked.

White Cropped, Crewneck Tee (size XS) – I love this tee and actually have the same exact one in black (I wore it in this popular outfit with a black blazer and jeans). But I will note that it is pretty cropped and so you have to be careful to pair it with the right bottoms for it to look right. Most of the jeans I selected are high-waisted and look fine with the tee, but I just wanted to give you a heads up. If you’re looking for a classic white tee (which would work interchangeably), I’d recommend this one by Madewell (also here). I have it (in size XS) and have been wearing it when I want something less cropped.

Pink Floral-Printed Top (size XS) – This was my wildcard addition to the collection because I wanted to add a little color! This top is a great example of an item I would ADD to my baseline capsule wardrobe when wanted to update what I’ve been wearing. But I made sure I could easily style it multiple ways. I found that it pairs really well with the blue suede shoes I selected, which was fun to stye. I’ve wore it with black jeans and styled it with my light wash denim, dark wash denim and white denim! All that to say, I think it’s a great addition!

Blue Printed Blouse (size XS) – I searched long and hard for something like this top and finally found what I needed at LOFT. I wanted a piece that easily went with the colors I’d already incorporated, but that added a little interest to the collection. I love how this pairs with denim, black, and even the blue suede shoes I included. It’s great for work or play and can easily be transitioned between the two.

Chambray Button Up (size XS) – Would this even be a capsule wardrobe if I didn’t include a chambray shirt?! I love my chambray shirt and wear it year round!

LAYERING PIECES

Colored Cardigan (size XXS) – I went back and forth on whether I wanted to get this cardigan in the olive green color of pink but finally decided on the green. I wanted to include a colored cardigan because I knew it would pair well with some of the other neutral/classic pieces I’d selected.

Off-White Cropped Cardigan (Size XS) – Since I had a few tops I could wear untucked, I wanted to find a cardigan that fit a little shorter to add some contrast to some of my looks. This one has been a GREAT addition and I’ve been able to style it multiple ways. It also pairs really nicely with the printed camisole I included.

Denim Jacket (size S) – I’m such a denim jacket fan – I absolutely love them and what they can do for just about ANY look.

Blush (faux) Leather Jacket (size S) – a jacket this color is GREAT for Spring because you can lighten up some of your outfits to create a more transitional look. I love this paired with the floral pink top I included but it also looks great with white and black.

BOTTOMS

Most of these bottoms are jeans because that’s what I wear pretty much every single day.

Wide Leg, Cropped Flowy Pants (also available here) (size XXS, run bigger) – I have actually been able to style these SO many different ways! I wanted a pant that I could easily dress up for meetings, church, or even date night with a heel. These have been a GREAT and VERSATILE option!

Black Demi-Cut Cropped Jeans (size 24) – I’d say these are my one trendy pair of jeans I wanted to style for y’all. I was a little hesitant at first, but now that I’ve played around with them, I LOVE them. I’ve styled them with flats, mules, slides, and even sneakers and they look great. I love the high-waist too! I’m 5′ 4″ and found that the PETITE SIZING hit me in a better place than the regular fit, so I’d suggest ordering the petite sizing online if you’re around or below my height. It makes a big difference!

Dark Wash Skinny Jeans (size 25) – I have these in both the light wash and the dark because they’re SO GREAT – read more below.

High Rise Light Wash Skinny Jeans – You’ll see that these jeans are the exact same ones I have in the darker wash because they just fit SO WELL. I realize they’re a bit expensive, but I’ve been through my fair share of classic denim and these are the best I’ve come across. I love the high-waist and the fact that they’re a little cropped, so I don’t have to get them hemmed. (I’m 5′ 4″ for reference).

(If the cropped CoH jeans are sold out on Shopbop, try the CoH website here!)

White Frayed Cropped Jeans (size 25, fit TTS) – I have this style of Mother jean in black and have been obsessed with them for 3 years now. I’ve tried a lot of Mother’s other styles, but something about the high-waist and fit of *this* style feels (and looks!) more flattering. I still like them better in black, but I loved the frayed detail on these so I decided to keep and style them. Plus, finding a decent pair of flattering white jeans is HARD.

SHOES

Blue Suede Sandals (size 6.5) – these little shoes have probably been the most fun to style out of everything I’ve included. They look so cute with white jeans, black jeans (and pants!), and I love how they look with my dark wash denim too!

Espadrille Mules (size 6.5) – Once the weather warms up a little bit, I’ll switch from wearing my closed-toe mules to these ALL the time. These are just such a great basic. There’s a bit of a heel, but I love that look!

Leather (closed toe) Mules – Hands down, these are my GO-TO shoe during the month of March.

Peep Toe Bootie – These are GREAT for transitioning to spring! I love that the heel isn’t too high so I Can wear them all day long. I’ve only been able to wear them 2x since it’s still been pretty chilly here in Dallas, but so far I love them!

Black Heels – I wanted to include a heel so I could dress up some of the pieces for date nights, church, or meetings.

Leopard Loafers – these have been such a go-to for me through Fall and even Winter and I’ll be wearing them well into Spring as well. I love adding a leopard accent to my neutral looks to bring it all together.

BONUS ITEM – I also LOVE these snakeskin mules (fit TTS – $70) if you’re looking for something a little more trendy to switch things up! But they have neutral colors so they’re easy to pair with most of the items I’ve paired in this capsule!
