NOLA Room: Accents

I finally got me bed down to NOLA a few days ago (woohoo!! no more mattress on the floor!), so things are sort of coming together.

Right now, the walls in my room are a light green-ish color, which is actually very pretty; unfortunately, though, it totally clashes with this whole white-vibe/modern-eclectic I’ve got going on. If I were going for a more traditional look, this color would be absolutely perfect. But I’ve lived in a “traditional” (french-inspired) bedroom my entire life, so I’m sort of rebelling by trying out something completely different. And to be honest, I’m still not quite sure what that “Something different” will amount to! haha. As of now, I’ve got a lot of white, some lacquer, a little acrylic, and a mirrored piece. Oh, and I have a random antique armoire that I need to somehow tie into the room….

If all goes as planned, my little painter “friends” should be over here today to start painting! Yipppee!! Picking the paint color was actually a pretty quick decision because I knew if I thought about it too much, I would stress myself out – there are WAY too many options. But thanks to the ever-so-helpful houzz dot com, I was able to visualize the paint colors in a room since the colors look so different when actually painted on the walls. Initially, the plan was to choose a white color (white dove, thanks to my instagram friends), but I started to get a little nervous about actually being able to pull off the all white look without my room feeling like an insane asylum (no offense!). So i decided to go with Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist, which has a little bit of a gray/cream tint to it to add some color! What do you think? Eeek!! I hope it looks good! The walls in the photo below are in this color so you can get an idea of what it looks like on walls. I really do hope I didn’t screw this up.

Ok so moving on from paint….I’ve got a few more fun decisions in the making to add some final touches to my room. And I decided I would let you guys in on the decision-making process! Please (please!) comment on this post with your thoughts and picks – I would absolutely LOVE to hear from you all, as always!

For the side tables below, I need a table to go in between 2 gold chairs that I’m eventually going to reupholster either white or hot pink . The chairs have an antique-ish feel to them, so I thought mixing in some modernness would look fun and eclectic. Thoughts? I can’t decided which one I like better!

I think I’m leaning towards the chandelier with the crystals, but I also like the simplistic look of the other one. There’s actually another one I’m considering too – it’s shaped like the crystal one, but looks more like the shabby chic one. Which look do you like better? Oh and by the way, this is going above the gold chairs and table (above) for a little corner vignette.

So, as I’ve told you before, I’m a little (ok, A LOT) obsessed with coffee table books. I’m awaiting my bookcase, and upon it’s arrival you can bet your bottom dollar that I’ll be styling it as SOON as I get it out of the box!! I can’t wait. My coffee table books are stored in my closet and randomly placed around the house, so it will be nice when they (along with other accents + decor) finally have a home! Below are two pieces I’m considering for coffee-book styling on my shelves. Which is your favorite?!

As you know, my room is essentially all white right now. But I intend to add some strategically placed (and hopefully tastefully placed) “POPS” of color. I actually already own this green mirror and can’t wait to coordinate it into my (imaginary) gallery wall. I’ve been collecting random knick knacks from antique shops/Etsy shops/consignment stores that will eventually make up a very unexpected, yet fun, conglomeration of pretty & random pieces to attempt (extra emphasis added) to set up a gallery wall above my IKEA couch. Anyway, which other pieces do you like? I’m thinking these foo dogs might be a must – right?!! I love the bar cart, but it might have to wait until Christmas….they’re kind of pricey!

And lastly, the accent fabric! I have a little bench at the end of my bed I wan to upholster with a fun, pink IKAT fabric. I also want to re-upholster those gold chairs I mentioned above. And lastly, I’ll add a few random pillows here and there! Which fabrics are your favorite??

You guys better let me know your thoughts!! It literally makes my day when I hear from you!!

Sorry for the lack of post yesterday. I spent the day roaming around New Orleans. I took the day off from everything and simply did whatever I wanted as a little self reward of sorts after hearing some exciting news.  —> GUESS WHAT?!! Remember that test I felt so horrible about? Yea, the one where I wrote a letter to the IRS and CPA board of LA because I was so LIVID and flabbergasted (for lack of better words!) with how unexpected some of the questions were?!! (there were questions from a newly passed 2012 tax law! I kid you not!). Anyway, I just found out I passed!!! Woohoo! high 5! Just thought I’d fill you guys in.
