Bringing femininity to masculine work pieces

business casual outfit Neck Tie Blouse

First of all, thank you for the feedback on the initial business casual post I did last week! Like I mentioned there, I’m beyond excited to start bringing business casual inspiration to y’all. I have lots of exciting things lined up (but promise this won’t turn into a business blog), so stay tuned!

Since I know everyone can’t or doesn’t want to wear a skirt + heels to work everyday (especially when the weather sucks and/or you have to walk a lot), I wanted to switch things up with a more masculine look. OK, and don’t be scared of the word masculine! Even girly girls like myself can benefit from borrowing from the guys, and it’s a chic way to add variety to your style.

If you think about it, this entire look is based on pieces that are classically masculine, but I added feminine touches to feel more like myself. Instead of a bow tie, I’m wearing this cute tie-neck that not only dresses up the plain white blouse, but adds a feminine touch, too. This tie reminds me of the ribbons I used to wear in my hair as a little girl – and a long, loose bow is the perfect way to style it. I chose cropped black pants to show off these shoes (p.s. how adorable are they?!). I’m not the biggest fan of loafers, but the sleekness of this pair plus the big bow and I was in love. Also, they are such a nice break from heels when you need one. In terms of flats, I used to only wear boots or ballet slippers, but adding loafers to my closet has given me wayyy more to work with.

Accessory wise, I chose black aviators and a chunky gold watch. You will notice, however, that my nails and hair are done. It might sound weird, but I think it’s ABSOLUTELY necessary to play up your female features when wearing masculine-inspired outfits. My hair in a ponytail or bun would have made this look too over-the-top masculine for me. You still want to feel pretty when wearing this style, and to me, hair and nails are essential to feeling confident and pulled together.

Do y’all like this look? It’s definitely outside the box for me, so I’m eager to hear what you think! I hope it serves as inspiration for all my business women or anyone wanting to add feminine touches to a masculine-heavy outfit.
