Flared denim is back, y’all. It’s crazy, but it’s a THING. I know we’ve been seeing long, flared denim on the scene for the past few seasons. BUT now. Now, we’ve got flared, CROPPED denim. And I’m not gonna lie, I sort of hated it at first (#confessions). But I’ve slowly and gradually warmed up to it and am now sporting my very first pair on BTD today for y’all. (woop!)

Styling a Cropped Jeans Outfit

This whole flared trend totally reminds of the 2000s-hit-me-baby-one-more-time. Except that this time the flares are coming back with an unexpected twist, cue the ‘cropped’ element. Like I mentioned, the cropped flare combo was intimidating at first, I didn’t know what was the right length, what shoes to wear, and if I could even pull it off. Now, I’m full fledged on the bandwagon. It’s the perfect staple for spring and summer and definitely reinvents your denim wardrobe.

I’ve rounded up my how-to’s on pulling off the cropped-flared-jean-trend for y’all::

Invest In A High Waist (GOTTA have it)

If you’re petite (like me) investing in a high-waisted jeans will make you feel and look more comfortable in your jeans. One of the issues I had when finding the perfect pair was feeling like it made my legs look short. The trick to a high waist though is that it will elongate your legs and deceivingly make your legs appear longer and slimmer.

Length Is Key

In order to make your jeans look cropped and not like your shrunk them in the wash, you need to find the perfect length. For the look you want them to hit you right above the ankle. Again, if you’re short you can get them cropped or look into brands that produce ‘short’ sizes. This length will be great for showing off your cute mules, slides, or booties.

Have Fun With Your Denim

When it comes to this trend it’s all about having fun with your jeans. Play around with dressing them up and down! When I’m running around town I like to wear my cropped flares with mules or slides to give it a playfully relaxed styles. Then if I’m meeting friends for drinks I’ll dress them up with a cute block heel and throw on a statement making blouse. The more you play with them,  the more versatility you’ll find. They will soon be your favorite pair of jeans in your closet!
