Halloween is usually a holiday that you either have to fully invest in, or one that ends up being just another day, right? There are some years where I have my outfit picked out for months, have plans, and just go for it. But then there are years where it completely sneaks up on me and then I find myself in bed wishing I planned something. I’m sure if you have kids you’re already busy enough and don’t need anything else to do, but for anyone without plans, do you feel me?

Fun & Simple Ways To Celebrate Halloween

This year it’s on a Monday – blah! – so I have a feeling I’ll be laying pretty low. I hate the idea of fully skipping holiday plans though, so I started brainstorming different ways to still celebrate without much prep work. I figured y’all might be in the same boat, so I wanted to share my ideas on simple, fun things to do on October 31st.

1. Spooky TV Snuggle Sesh

It’s cliche for a reason – you have to watch something spooky around Halloween, but it doesn’t have to be a classic slasher. I know some people get scared easily and/or don’t love anything too gross, so below are ideas for updated entertainment options based on your freak out level, ha!  Also, this snuggle sesh can be done with family, friends, or your significant other, depending on who you’re spending your night with.

Make a pillow/blanket fort in the living room, order or make some frozen pizza, grab a veggie platter and some wine – make this easy. Oh and duh – candy. This is the easiest, comfiest way to spend Halloween.

A lot of these movies are on HBO, Netflix, or from Red Box. Pick out what you’ll watch beforehand so you know where to find it and can make sure that it’s an option for you based on your cable/TV subscriptions. Also, having a backup is always a good idea!

  • Very scary movies: The Hills Have Eyes, The Shining, The Silence of the Lambs, Halloween
  • Semi scary movies: Scream, Edwards Scissorhands, Disturbia, I Know What You Did Last Summer
  • Funny movies: Ghostbusters, Scary Movie, Shaun of the Dead, Adams Family
  • Cute movies: Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Casper
  • TV shows: Scream Queens (FOX), Stranger Things (Netflix), The Night Before (HBO series)

2. Get Freaked Outdoors

If you’re one of those people who loves to scare yourself (not me), grab your partner, a friend, a sibling, whoever and wait for it to get dark, then go outside. And I’m not talking your driveway. Drive up to a hill in your area, turn off the car, and sit out on the hood in silence (plus wine, obviously). Or, go for a walk in a creepy, quiet forrest nearby. Basically, you can freak yourself out for free and don’t have to plan anything. Be safe of course and don’t do this alone!

3. Haunted House

A lot of times I’ve been to these before actual Halloween, but why not save it for the night of? Dress up, or stay in your plain clothes (very easy lol), grab some friends and check out the closest haunted house. Grab some dinner before and stay festive without having to fully plan a night – and have the cooking and entertainment handled for you.

4. Trick-or-Treat

You’re never too old to go trick-or-treating…kinda. I’m not talking about dressing up and looking for candy with children, but go with family or a friend who has kids and volunteer to take the kids out on one of the routes. It’s adorable and funny seeing what kids dress up as, and if you don’t get Halloween foot-traffic at your spot, tag along with others! Or…sit at the door handing out candy/eating it and call it a night. That’s still celebrating!

What about you?

Will you being doing any of the above next Monday or do you have something else planned? Please do tell! I’ve got a little get together with some friends to celebrate one of my best friend’s birthdays that just so happens to fall on Halloween :) so I’m excited about that!
