I Am Always Sure About What I Don’t Want

I am always sure of what I don't want

I am almost never sure about what I want but I am always sure about what I don’t want.

The million dollar question of becoming an adult – what do you want? Because life is what you make it and you can have anything you want if you work hard enough – right? And the only thing YOU have to figure out (before you can advance from step A to step B) is to figure out WHAT it is that you want. Simple, right?

Ha! Not exactly.

Part of the journey of figuring out what it is that you want in life is knowing what all is out there. Because how can you really know what you want if your world is limited to your little bubble of a perspective at any point in time? SO this is why I’ve decided to go with another approach – figure out what I DON’T want. Because at least then I have something to work with.

Mr. Twain phrases it brilliantly when he says that the secret to getting ahead is to START. Start somewhere, get it on paper (metaphorically speaking), give it your all, and then (!) evaluate what you want to do with that experience.

It’s also important to remember that your experience or situation (or whatever) is not always going to be some glamorous story or picture perfect experience either.  Life is messy. And figuring out what you want is a process and sometimes a life-long journey. So be patient with yourself and be realistic with your expectations. Don’t think you have to figure it all out RIGHT NOW. Because you don’t…and you won’t. It’s a work in progress.

The trial and error approach is my method of choice; and quite frankly, it’s the only way I know. Take notes. Be self-aware and take time to reflect on things. Only YOU can ultimately determine and figure all this “life” stuff out, so be sure to take care of yourself.

I hope you have a lovely Tuesday, friends! xo, B
